Municipal Electric Aggregation

The City of Bloomington and the Town of Normal are part of the Municipal Electric Aggregation program through Direct Energy. Aggregation allows our community to pool together and collectively purchase an electricity contract with a fixed rate for the duration of the contract, protecting customers against sudden fluctuations that utility rates can be subject to.

For residential customers and small businesses that are in the program, the only thing that changes is the rate — Ameren still supplies the electricity and provides energy services. All users were automatically enrolled and are part of the program unless they completed and returned an opt-out letter. Residents can opt-out anytime by contacting Direct Energy at 866-968-8065, or via email.  Note that, until the current contract expires, residents can not opt back in to the program once they have opted out. As an added bonus, 100% of the electricity supplied comes from renewable energy credits.
