What is group solar?
Better known as a group-buy program, group solar reduces the cost of solar panels using the power of buying in bulk. A group of individuals interested in solar will come together to buy solar panels in bulk, and therefore lower the rates for everyone involved. The more people sign up for a group-buy program, the more everyone in the program will save, and the higher the purchasing power of everyone in the group.
The cost savings inherent in a group-buy program make solar more accessible to residents who previously may not have had the financial resources to invest in solar. This discount will also be on top of government incentives to further reduce the price.
Are there group programs happening in Bloomington-Normal right now?
The Grow Solar BN program, a collaboration between the EAC and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, will be starting again in late spring 2026. The EAC will provide immediate updates once the program is underway.
