Group Solar

What is group solar?

Better known as a group-buy program, group solar reduces the cost of solar panels using the power of buying in bulk. A group of individuals interested in solar will come together to buy solar panels in bulk, and therefore lower the rates for everyone involved. The more people sign up for a group-buy program, the more everyone in the program will save, and the higher the purchasing power of everyone in the group.

The cost savings inherent in a group-buy program make solar more accessible to residents who previously may not have had the financial resources to invest in solar. This discount will also be on top of government incentives to further reduce the price.

Are there group programs happening in Bloomington-Normal right now?

Currently, there are no group solar programs occurring in Bloomington-Normal or McLean County. The most recent program was the Grow Solar BN program in 2025, a collaboration between the EAC and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association. The EAC will provide immediate updates should another Grow Solar program start again in the future.
